The Case for Pavers Over Poured Concrete

They don’t crack

A paver field is hundreds of small units with sand joints between them. Ground movement — expansive soil, roots, a seismic nudge — is absorbed at the joints instead of cracking a monolithic slab. Twenty years on, a well-built paver patio looks like it did at year one; a slab of the same age usually shows its map of cracks.

They’re repairable

Stain one paver, or need to reach a pipe under the patio? Lift the affected units, do the work, and reset them. The repair is invisible. The same fix in poured concrete is a saw, a jackhammer, and a patch that never quite matches.

Traction, drainage, and looks

Pavers give a textured, slip-resistant surface even wet, and the joints let some water through instead of sheeting it toward the house. You also get pattern, border, and color options that stamped concrete only imitates. The trade-off is a higher up-front cost and a base that has to be built properly — which is the whole job.
